Disability is not inability.
It is only a different way of getting to the same destination." In the heart of Northern Province, stands a woman whose story continues to inspire many—Jane Mulenga Nkonde, the Provincial Coordinator for the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD).
Living with a disability from childhood, Jane chose not to be defined by limitations, but by strength, determination, and purpose. From her early education to earning a degree in Social Work, she has continued to rise, breaking barriers and proving that nothing is impossible.
Starting her career as a secretary, Jane worked her way up to become a leader and advocate for persons with disabilities. Through her work, she has helped distribute wheelchairs and assistive devices, restoring dignity and independence to many across the province.
She believes the greatest barriers are not physical—but societal attitudes, and calls on families and communities to embrace and support persons with disabilities. Beyond her work, Jane is a wife, mother, and woman who finds joy in simple life moments, reminding us that strength and grace go hand in hand. Her message is powerful:
